GREAT FRONTPAGE-BASED WEB SITES
Cerro Coso Community College offers online classes and other educational opportunities for teachers and students in the desert, mountain, and valley communities of Eastern California. They recently decided to redesign their Web site, launching an entirely new look and feel and making site maintenance easier to manage. FrontPage has been their primary development tool since 1997. CCCC wanted to make better use of the latest features in FrontPage 2002 to enhance the CCCC Web site so that it would more accurately reflect educational trends as well as meet community needs and expectations. Check it out at http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/evaluation/gallery/cerrocoso.htm

The South Coast Gateway Tourism Resource Project Coordinator, responsible for five regional city Web sites spanning two counties, was faced with an incredible challenge--updating information across five sites with a distinctly different overall look and feel, all created over a seven year period using a variety of tools from a number of different vendors. Roughly 100,000 pages needed to be integrated into a single gateway, with a unified design and functionality that would expedite site management, aid quick response time to customer feedback, and facilitate the incorporation of new feature areas to create a valuable and unique online resource for visitors to this area of California. See how they did it at http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/evaluation/gallery/santabarbara.htm

TIPS AND TRICKS

DIRECT USERS TO YOUR MOBILITY-ENHANCED WEB SITE
After you've downloaded and implemented one of the mobility add-ins for FrontPage (either the Microsoft Mobile HTML Optimizer or the WML Converter), you can direct users to your new, mobility-enhanced Web site with simple HTML and a little bit of client-side JavaScript.

Solution 1: Add a link to your mobile subsite from your home page. This simple solution lets the user choose how to view your site. Here's the HTML:

<a href=“http://www.yourwebsite.com”>Click here for your Web site</a>
<a href=“http://www.yourwebsite.com/Mobile”>Mobile browsers click here</a>

For an example, see: http://www.microsoftfrontpage.com/showcase/edv.html

Solution 2: Automatically redirect mobile devices to your mobility-enhanced Web site with JavaScript.

<!--Script to navigate to proper page according to user device -->
<script language=“javascript”>
var strNav=navigator.userAgent;
var isCE=strNav.indexOf("Windows CE");
if (isCE>-1)
{
window.open("Mobile/index.htm", "_self");
}
</script>
<!--End Script-->

For an example, see:
http://www.microsoftfrontpage.com/showcase/trailsource.html

Please note: Solution 2 works only for Microsoft Windows CE-based devices. Check your provider documentation for other operating systems.
