APPLYING
UNIQUE PERMISSIONS TO A SUBWEB
When you create new Webs with FrontPage, their permissions are the same
as the root Web by default. To modify permissions for a subweb, the "Use
unique permissions for this Web" option must be selected. Here's how:

SOURCE CONTROL INTEGRATION
If you want to use Microsoft Visual SourceSafe as a method of source
control for your Web, you can integrate a new or existing Visual SourceSafe
project with FrontPage. The source control actions that are performed in

TIPS AND TRICKS
ADDING
USERS/PERMISSIONS TO FRONTPAGE-BASED WEBS
FrontPage detects users and user groups by looking at user accounts
already setup on the server or domain where your published Web resides. If these
accounts do not exist on the server, you must make a request to your ISP or
network administrator to set them up. Then you can use FrontPage to add or
modify these accounts in your Web or subwebs. The following information will
help you manage users and provide the correct permissions they need.
The three permission settings you can give user and user group accounts are:
Browse, Author, and Administer. Browse permission means users cannot open the
Web using FrontPage, but can browse it. Author permission means users can open
the Web and edit content using FrontPage. Administer permission means users can
open, edit, create new subwebs, and modify Web permissions with FrontPage. To
add new user accounts with Browse, Author, or Administer permissions, do the
following:
1.) Using FrontPage, open your Web or subweb*.
2.) On the Tools menu, click on Security, and then click Permissions.
3.) Click the Users tab and then click the Add button.
4.) In the Obtain List From: box, select the server or domain from which you
want to add accounts.
5.) Under Names: select the accounts you want to add with permission to this Web
and click Add.
6.) Under Allow users to: select the level of permissions for the accounts you
added. Then Click OK.
7.) If you need to edit permissions for any account, select the account and
click the Edit button. Click Apply, and then click OK.
You can follow the same procedures listed above for adding new groups with
permissions to your Web.

Source control ensures that
only one person at a time can edit a Web page— a necessity if you have more
than one author. Open FrontPage Help and search it using the keywords
"source control " to find out about this built-in feature.
