Find out how easily you can include very cool pop-up message boxes on pages in
your own site. Using this script from Javasource, you can create links on your
site that display the pop-up message whenever the user hovers over it. The
message can be displayed in a number of box styles, and, since it is in a .js
file, you can add the code to your site once and call it from every page of your
site. See examples and check out the easy instructions for creating the .js file
and cutting and pasting the script at the address above.
*************************************************
*** USING THE INTERNET EXPLORER 5 EDIT BUTTON ***
*************************************************
If there are Web page layouts that really catch your eye and you'd like to know
how to recreate them, FrontPage and Internet Explorer 5 can point you in the
right direction. If you set FrontPage as your HTML Editor in Internet Explorer
(see below), you can go to almost any Web page, click on the Edit button, and
that page will open in FrontPage. Here you'll be able to see any layout tricks
that have been used to create that page.
To set FrontPage as your HTML editor in Internet Explorer:
- go to the Tools menu
- select Internet Options
- click on the Programs tab
- select Microsoft FrontPage as the HTML editor

important first step is to make sure that search engines favourably index your

provided by the Help system to create meta tags that will improve your Web site
ranking. For further information and your free 14-day trial, visit the address

*** FRONTPAGE TIPS AND TRICKS ***
*********************************
Our tips and tricks are continuing to prove popular and if you have a tip that
you'd like to share, visit the Office hints Web site and send it to us - see the
next section for more details.
This month, we have another two of our top tips for your delectation. Again,
they're standard, but little-known features within the products and may be just
what you have been looking for...
SPECIFYING PARAGRAPH SPACING AS A PERCENTAGE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you specify paragraph spacing within the Format, Paragraph dialog box, the
chances are that you specify it in the default points, or even pixels (px),
inches (in) or centimetres (cm). However, if you want an indent on a paragraph
to always look appropriate, regardless of the window size, try specifying the
spacing as a percentage: a 5% first line indent works very nicely, for example.
USING THE SUBSTITUTION COMPONENT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you have a standard piece of text that is used throughout your Web site, that
changes on a regular basis? It could be a special offer, "Tip of the
Week", or even "Employee of the Month". When the text changes,
you need to go through every page and make sure that you update the text as
appropriate. Of course, you could use the Find and Replace facility, but there's
an even better way to keep this text up to date.
Use the Substitution Component. You set up a named parameter for the text that
will change and supply the initial value for that parameter - this week's
special offer, for example. You then use the Substitution Component to refer to
that parameter wherever you need to, throughout your Web. When the text comes to
change, you simply update the parameter settings and every
reference to it throughout the whole Web will be automatically updated. Sounds
magic?! Well read on for instructions!
To set up the parameter, go to the Tools menu and choose the Web Settings
option. Click on the Parameters tab and then the Add button. Supply a name for
the parameter and then type in the initial value. Use the Modify button in this
dialog box to later change the parameter, as required.
To insert the text of the parameter into a Web page, go to the Insert menu and
choose the Component option. Select the Substitution option and choose your
parameter name from the "Substitute with" list.
