EDUCATION/GOVERNMENT
MANAGE SCHOOL WEB SITES WITH STYLE GUIDELINES
A school Web site is often organic and untended. Over time, it grows, and grows, and grows. Eventually, the site looks more like a wild field than a groomed garden. There are measures you can take, however, to accommodate any amount of growth on your site. With guidance from Amber Mitchell, you can help your school site flourish without growing pains by implementing content and layout guidelines. http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/community/columns/edcolumn03.htm
IMPROVING GOVERNMENT SITE EXPERIENCE
Government often gets a bad rap when it comes to serving customers. But the Web gives government agencies a unique opportunity. Justine Brown, editor of Government Technology, explains that with the right tools, some forethought, and a little hard work, a government agency can easily change the way constituents view it. http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/community/columns/govcolumn05.htm
WEB PROFESSIONAL
SO MANY BROWSERS: BE A BETTER WEB PROGRAMMER
Whatever choices you make to support or ignore various Web browsers and bleeding-edge features, it’s reassuring to know Web logs will tell you what your audience is viewing and how. Mary Burk shows you how to design pages with HTML standards in mind and archive your existing pages for older browsers to view.

BEST PRACTICES FOR ASP DEVELOPMENT
Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP) was developed to make server-side applications easier to write and maintain. However, ASP is so flexible that it is easy to create ASP applications that become unwieldy. Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Kevin Spencer shows you how to develop ASP pages you can easily maintain, easily work with in FrontPage, and run with optimal performance.

TIPS AND TRICKS
USING TOP 10 LISTS IN FRONTPAGE
With Microsoft FrontPage 2002, you can create top 10 lists that will help you manage your Web site. These lists display valuable information about how your Web site is being navigated by visitors. To use these lists, your Web site must be located on a Web server running FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 or SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft.
As the name implies, top 10 lists display the 10 most commonly occurring items in each category (for the current month). The categories are as follows:
Visited Pages: The 10 most commonly requested pages on your Web site.
Referring Domains: The 10 most common domains of which your site visitors are members.
Referring URLs: The 10 most common Web sites that sent visitors to your Web site.
Search Strings: The 10 most common search terms used to find your Web site.
Visiting Users: The 10 most common visitors to your Web site.
Operating Systems: The 10 most common operating systems used by visitors to your Web site.
Browser: The 10 most common browsers used by visitors to your Web site.
You can add top 10 lists to any pages in your Web site. Make sure to open your Web site in FrontPage 2002, and then open the page on which you want to insert a list. Then, do the following:
1. In the Normal pane, position the insertion point where you want to insert a top 10 list.
2. On the Insert menu, click Web Component.
3. In the left pane, click Top 10 List, and in the right pane, click the list that you want displayed. Click Finish.
4. Type or modify the following information in the Top 10 List Properties dialog box:
Title Text: Modify the name you want to appear as the title of the list.
Include date usage processing was last run: Select the check box if you want to include this date.
List Style: Choose Table, Numbered, Bulleted, or Text.
5. Click OK, and then on the Standard toolbar, click Save.
6. Click Preview in Browser.
